The Secret To The Faculty of Philosophy

Academic Dean / Faculty of Philosophy

Ciprian Gheorghe-Luca Ph.D.

Welcome to the Faculty of Philosophy at Sola Scriptura University! We are thrilled that you have chosen to study with us, and we believe that your time here will be both challenging and rewarding.

As the Academic Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, I want to take this opportunity to remind you of a paragraph from the Holy Scriptures, Colossians 2:2-3, which states, “My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” This verse is the foundation of our faculty’s motto, “omnes thesauri sapientiæ”, which translates to “all the treasures of wisdom”. As we study the various philosophies and theories that have shaped human history, it is crucial that we approach them with a biblical perspective. We must not forget that the ultimate source of wisdom and knowledge is found in Jesus Christ.

Why should Christians study philosophy?

There are at least three main reasons: first, it helps us to understand and articulate our beliefs in a logical and rational way. Secondly, it allows us to critically examine and engage with ideas and beliefs that may be in opposition to our own. And lastly, it helps us to understand and appreciate the diversity of perspectives within the Christian tradition.

As faculty, we are committed to providing our students with a solid foundation in philosophical thought while also upholding Christian values, and to offering an education that is both intellectually stimulating and spiritually nourishing. Our goal is to help you develop the skills necessary to engage the intellectual life with a Christian worldview and to be equipped to share the truth of the Gospel in a way that is both credible and winsome. We also place a strong emphasis on the integration of faith and reason, as we believe that this is essential for a holistic understanding of the world and our place in it.

I would like to encourage all of you to embrace the opportunities that studying philosophy in a Christian university has to offer.
